Sitting in my Educational Leadership class this week, I had one of those cool moments where I was presented with research that supported what Restitution teaches us. We were discussing mental health, and how as professionals in the education system, we need to be conscious of what we need to do to take care of ourselves in this business, or risk burning out.
The research our professor shared showed that there are three things that are keys to good mental health:
- Relatedness – feeling connected to others and understood by them
- Competency – having the skills and resources to do our jobs well
- Autonomy – the ability to make decisions to determine our own path
